Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning technicians design, install, maintain, and repair the equipment used to provide environmental indoor air quality in homes and buildings. Residential and light commercial heating, ventilating, and air conditioning, along with refrigeration, are the main focuses of the program.
Students in the HVAC program gain real world experience working with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. In addition, the growing emphasis on energy cost and utilization is creating a need for technicians to renovate, convert, and service existing heating and air conditioning systems.
HVAC technicians work indoors and outdoors; above and below ground; in homes, hospitals, and shopping centers; and in many other industrial areas. Students learn to utilize blueprints and drawings; install refrigeration lines and pipes; install furnaces and air-conditioners; test electronic control systems; design, install, and troubleshoot electrical systems; and repair heating and air-conditioning systems.
